Certified B Corporation

Transforming the world into an ethical world
We are thrilled and proud to be a Certified B Corporation™. For nil, this certification isn't a goal—it’s the independent verification of the work we’ve done since our establishment in 2014. We are officially recognized as a business that meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Being a B Corp means we are legally required to balance profit and purpose, considering the impact of every decision on all our stakeholders: our workers, our customers, our community, and the planet.
The nil difference:
-
nil harm, nil waste: Our mission is to care for the planet and people by creating no harm, providing affordable, ethical, eco everyday essential alternatives.
-
A Real, Personal Investment: When you buy a nil product, you invest in a life of change. Our products are a real, personal investment in transforming lives—not just a faceless consumer transaction.
-
Our B Impact Score: 85.4

How nil creates a positive impact
Our impact is directly linked to our products, our people, and our continuous commitment to ethical practices. Below is a breakdown of how we meet the high standards of B Corp Certification across the five key impact areas, focusing on the work we are already doing:
Workers (Our People & Home Workforce)
We believe in empowering our people. We have reinvented the Home Workforce model to bring income and purpose to many people, predominantly women, who work from home.
-
We have provided work for over 20 women each week and produced over 1 million sewn/handmade goods through this model.
-
This approach ensures our team can work within their own hours and eliminates accessibility issues, creating a truly inclusive employment environment.
-
We are currently working through our Living Wage accreditation, which we have strived to meet since our establishment.
Environment (nil harm, nil waste)
Our core vision is a world without waste, starting with a goal of 100% sustainable kitchens and bathrooms.
-
Products: All our products are eco-friendly, from being reusable and organic to biodegradable. We have estimated that we have saved over 2 million pieces of plastic landing in our landfill to date.
-
Emissions & Fabrics: We are Carbon Friendly Certified with Ekos (with a very low estimated carbon footprint of 8.074 tonnes of CO2e for 2020/2021) and off-set our minimal carbon where we can. We have had GOTS Fabric Certification since 2015 and work with Fair Trade Organic fabric suppliers.
-
Product Stewardship: We ensure all our products have a clear "eco loop." We initiated the world's first Send Back Silicone Collection project in 2022, estimated to save over 100 tonnes of silicone from landfill in New Zealand alone.
Community (Giving Back & Education)
We are an accredited social enterprise—a business for good that gives back to the environment and communities.
-
Giving: We are a member of B1G1 and give 1% of our revenue a year to charities such as Sea Shepherd and Plant a Tree.
-
Education: We offer a weekly sustainable training session at our Showroom and provide free educational time to children through our Sustainability School Initiative.
-
Ethical Sourcing: All our ingredients and products are sourced from ethical communities. We are an approved Ākina Impact Supplier in New Zealand, recognized for social procurement.
Governance & Customers
Our legal structure requires us to maintain accountability and transparency for all stakeholders.
-
Transparency: We require our international suppliers to commit to our 7-point sustainable and social justice commitments, detailed in our Impact Reports.
-
Quality: We only work with GOTS certified fabric and are a member of the Usedfully textile reuse programme, committing to a circular economy for textiles.
Let's nilify our world together
Small, optimistic steps can save the world, and we are trail blazers in this area. You can help us educate the world by buying from us, fundraise with us, and advocate with us to make a difference.
Thank you for being part of the impact that nil is making. Ka nui te mihi me te maioha.
